    ELC Concert 2017

The ELC concert is an amazing showcase of the tremendous growth, talent, and confidence of the once very little ones we met in August. The students work hard practicing their two songs for both English and Arabic to perform on the big stage!

This memorable day is always one of ELC’s favorites and is cherished and loved by all for many years to come. It is not only a joyous occasion to see all the learning that has taken place, but also a time to reflect on how magical the ELC year has been and how dedicated the lovely children of ELC have been during their first steps of their lifelong learning journey.

Middle School Commendation and Graduation Ceremony 2017

Graduation is always a wonderful time to celebrate the accumulation of many, many hours of lessons, exams, assignments and homework. It is reflecting on the wonderful people in your life who walked the journey with you and being so grateful for these people. It is a reflection on the skills you have learned and your personal growth. The value of persistence and resilience that fired your passion to keep it alive; the confidence and humility which plays a huge role in the development of personality and a trait that is so important in the 21st century of risk taking. Graduation is a rewarding time not just for the graduates but your teachers and parents. This is the great reward for them too. As I listened to the stories, your memories and comments during graduation, I saw young adults who stood before me commanding an audience and articulating themselves. Our investment as teachers is you and I was so proud of you. Now, look forward and plan your next chapter. You are the best authors of your life so create an amazing story.

    Junior School Graduation Ceremony 2017

It is the end of an era for our students. They have finished Junior School and are ready to start their next big adventure in Middle School. Below is an excerpt from Miss Jessie’s speech at the graduation ceremony.

It is a beautiful thing, when a career and a passion come together and it is you who have made our jobs so much more rewarding. You have risen to each and every challenge that has been set for you, whether it was in the classroom, learning new skills, applying yourself, questioning things and completing assessments. On the fields, playing rugby or soccer, competing in athletics carnivals and swimming events. Always pushing yourselves to run faster and jump higher. Or personally, by challenging yourselves and facing your fears, by never giving up or giving in. Each of you is truly amazing in your own way, and each of you should be proud of your own personal successes.

Your positive attitudes, the way you work together, your conviction in your individuality and your ability to not only accept but to truly celebrate difference. You will be remembered as a cohort that was helpful, hardworking, talented and hilarious.

The time has now come for you to leave the comfort of the Junior School, where you have been the leaders for the past year. Middle School is waiting. So, farewell from the Grade 5 teachers, we will miss you. And remember, there is a difference between not knowing and not knowing YET. Continue to challenge yourselves, take risks and never stop believing in yourselves, we certainly won’t.

Best wishes to all our graduates. We hope you do your best and enjoy your schooling over the coming years.

Ms Jessie, Ms Lauren, Mr Reuben and Mr Ewan – Grade 5 teachers.

    AIS MUN Conference

The second annual AISMUN was once again a success with Tunisia's resolution passing this time around. The conference was entirely student-lead, following UN rules and regulations to emulate a real congregation of world political leaders. Debates became heated as foreign policies were discussed and resolutions were torn down.

The highlight of the event was arguably the lunch, where sweet pastries, sushi and Arab dessert were served. Besides that, the most amusing part of the event were the readings of the confessions in which delegates were praised for their sense of fashion and their participance in the debates.

    ELC Water Play Day

Water Play Day is one of our favourite special days at ELC.  By term three all of the children showed enormous progress in their confidence with the water activities. They all participated in a greater variety of games than in the first term.  They were also more independent with their choices about activities and friendships.  The children were also more responsible with managing their belongings and caring for the equipment.

As always the children loved sharing a picnic lunch of sausage sizzle and icy pop at the end of the morning. Click here for more photos of the event.

    Green Earth Day - 20th April 2017

AIS staff and students celebrated Earth Day on 20th April 2017 by wearing green clothes to raise awareness about environmental sustainability.  Teachers have been busy all week talking with students and working on activities so that our students have a real understanding of how our day to day actions impact on, not only our surrounding environments, but our Earth as a whole.  On Thursday, students and teachers started the day by cleaning up our school community followed by ‘Green Earth Day’ activities in the gym.  All proceeds from the day will go towards helping the Amazon Project.  AIS is proudly supporting One Family Global Volunteering (www.onefamilygv.org) and The Association for the Conservation of Kosnipata (APCONK) in Peru who are working on reforestation and education projects in the Amazon. Making this world a better place starts with you!!!  This is the motto behind the day and our students are proud to be global citizens and to be contributing to such a worthy cause….our Earth!!! Mothers Day - 21st March 2017

Mother's Day is a such a special celebration honoring the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in our society. At AIS we know that success at school is absolutely linked to the support our students receive from home. We wanted to take the time to celebrate all the things that our mothers do to help the children. In the Junior School our Mums had a such a nice surprise to see the special song and video that the children prepared playing in the foyer as they arrived. The ELC Mums really enjoyed coming to school to share a morning of activities and pampering. All of the Mums loved the cards and special wishes from the children.

Thanks AIS Mums - we love you and you really are our sunshine!

Please watch the video and look at some of the special photos from the day.

    International Day 2017

On Thursday 16th March AIS celebrated International Day, this was an amazing day to highlight our many nationalities that attend our school and how we all work together in this multicultural environment to benefit the learning of our students.

Our Students, Teachers and Parent community worked together to bring international food, refreshments,  crafts, sports, songs, dance, and fashion demonstrations.

The students got to visit each of the activities. In the gym they got to learn about other countries sports, out on the oval they got to see live dance performances such as a Latin Dance, a Bollywood dance, a New Zealand dance and the Dabkah and Yolla. They also witnessed a very exciting Kung Fu performance.

We truly saw what our slogan for International Day stands for - "We are one but we are many".

    International Women's Day 8th March 2017

International Women’s Day is a special occasion designed to celebrate the social, political, economic and political achievements of women: both past and present.  It is a moment in our fast-paced world when communities take the time to acknowledge and appreciate the contribution that women make to humanity.

On behalf of AIS, I’d like to say thank you to all the women who perform in a variety of roles in our community to ensure that our students are learning and are safe: including teacher aides, clerical staff, mothers, carers, grandmothers, teachers, aunties, sisters, canteen staff and administrators.  This day is not for women alone, it is an opportunity for men to demonstrate their gratitude for the tireless effort of women to maintain social harmony.

However, it is also a time to shine the spotlight on the women who are currently being treated unfairly, taken advantage of as well as the powerless who are being exploited or abused. It is time for our global village to implement change that will enable equity and respect for all: no matter what gender.

Mother Language Day 21st Feb 2017

Australian International School celebrated the Mother Language day on Tuesday, 21st Feb 2017. On this day there was a whole school assembly with a number of performances in English, Arabic and French. This day is truely significant in the celebration of multicultural environment that we nuture at our school.

    Athletics Carnival Feb 2017

Last week the school participated in the Inter House Athletics carnivals. Students as young as our ELC and Prep had their first taste of the athletics events that they will continue to develop across there school careers.

The Junior school were keen to dress in their house colours and some new war cry's and bubbling enthusiasm made it to be a great competitive day.

The Senior Boys and Girls were out to impress with some excellent displays in all athletic events. Records were broken across the school and new names put on the school record books. We now have some records that are still standing after 8 years.

Overall several houses took out the trophy in different age groups and we now will take our best athletes to take on the EISSA schools at SES this week and next. Goodluck to all those competing.

    Ski Trip to France

Earlier in January, the Parents and Friends of AIS group initiated an International Trip to the slopes of Southern France, specifically the mountain resort of Les Menuires.  Here, 32 of our students challenged themselves for a week in a safe, and very picturesque, environment.  They developed and enhanced their levels of independence, persistence and courage through the context of skiing.  All students reported amazing experiences that would create memories for a lifetime, with many already wanting to book again for the following year.

AIS celebrates Australia Day annually on 26th of January.  This is the official National day of Australia.  It marks the anniversary of the 1788 arrival of the First Fleet of British Ships to New South. AIS celebrations reflect the diverse society and landscape of Australiaand help our students to enjoy and learn a little about the Australian nation and community.  Our students particularly enjoy the whole school BBQ sausage sizzle and classroom activities, music and games.  After school our staff also enjoy a BBQ to celebrate the daywith our Indian colleagues who also celebrate Indian Republic Day on the 26th of January.  This year our Indian colleagues won the staff cricket match!

    Under Eight's Day

This year we celebrated Under Eights Day on Thursday the 16th of December. Under Eights Day is a celebration of the learning and development of children in Early Childhood. This day values their age and encourages their creativity and enthusiasm for learning.

There was a wide variety of fun free choice activities including obstacle courses, tug of war, face painting, mask making, clay and playdough, bubble blowing, totem tennis, musical instrument play, parachute play, tactile tubs with slime and other gooey substances and so much more.

One of the biggest highlights of the day is the wonderful parent participation.  AIS encourages parents to attend so that they can celebrate the day with their children. It is a day of activities that allows children to move independently around from one activity to another as their interests take them while being supervised by teachers and parents.

And the day is finished off with a yummy special treat ice-cream.

    Cross Country

The AIS Cross Country race day was held on Monday the 12th December.  Our Junior, Middle and Senior students showed fantastic endurance as they competed in their respective age groups to cover the course.  The course length ranged from 1.5 to 5 kilometers and was run outside in the natural terrain around the school property.  Cross country running is one of the disciplines under the umbrella sport of athletics and is a natural terrain version of long distance track.

One of the features of this day at AIS is the team spirit.  Our students chanted amazing house group songs that really encouraged the members of each of the teams.  The students all wore their team colours and supported each other to complete the course.  Well done AIS!

    AIS Day Against Bullying

The AIS Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is a day for our schools, students and the community to say Bullying - No Way!

When AIS celebrated the whole community wore red shirts for the day to show support for creating a positive school environment.  The students participated in a wide range of activities throughout the day ending in a whole school assembly where the united voice of the AIS community committed to helping prevent any bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence.  These are all interpersonal behaviours that can contribute to negative social environments that AIS is working together to prevent. AIS has clear procedures for such behaviours.
