The early years of education are a crucial stage in each child's life. AIS’s highly qualified classroom and specialist teachers recognise and responds to the rapid and significant learning and development that occurs in this early stage. We understand that children are competent, capable and full of rich potential. At AIS the ELC's children’s right to experience the joy of early childhood learning is fundamental. Learning is promoted through play, real life engagements, emergent and planned learning experiences, routines and transitions. ELC learning experiences are based on international studies of the most effective ways of helping young children learn. Teachers adopt the Reggio Emilia approach and philosophy which is internationally recognised as the gold standard for early years teaching. The teachers use the Australian curriculum program - ‘Early Years Learning Framework for Australia’ and the ‘Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines'. The children will delight in the wonder of learning as they;
- build a more confident self identity, sense of security and trust as well as develop increasing independence and perseverance
- enhance their connectedness as they build positive and respectful relationships, enhance their respect for diversity and respect for their world and environment,
- take an active learning role as they explore, inquire, collaborate, make choices, solve problems, be creative and imaginative as well as make meaningful use of technology and ICT’s
- develop wellbeing as they learn to show care and respect for their own and others physical and emotional development as well as health and safety
- become more effective with communicating as they expand language skills and build significant early literacy and numeracy skills
At AIS teachers devote time to observing and listening so that every child`s unique interests, strengths and abilities are understood. Based on these observations teachers then plan an enriching environment filled with learning provocations and experiences that will promote and enrich children’s holistic learning and development.
AIS recognises and respects that parents are children’s first educators and values the vital role parents, carers and family members play in children’s lives and their ongoing learning. We build respectful partnerships with families to enhance the learning for our students.
Our ELC learning programs provide opportunities for teachers to celebrate the richness and diversity of cultures and heritages that children and their families bring to the learning community.
ELC children attend school Sunday to Thursday from 8.00am to 1:00pm.
Children must be 4 years old by December in the year they enter ELC.
